Wood

The element of natural wood is in the Eastern position, opening, growing, expansive, brighter, and energetic like the eastern sunrise. Gives clear ideas a clean boost.

Natural wood, when transformed into beautiful jewelry or decorative pieces, may help us bring trees and the associations with trees wherever we are, especially supportive for those who spend much of their time, working or living indoors and for those who feel a sort of longing to be with or near trees but may not have trees or natural wood available.

This could be in the form of a piece of roaring ocean-tumbled driftwood, petrified wood, connecting us to trees that lived many millions of years ago, or even a twig or branch from a favorite kind of tree, or adding a wooden bowl to your personal space. Trees have had sacred and important meaning to many creatures and cultures since the dawn of time, breathing and providing vital oxygen, providing food to humans and animals, shade, shelter, medicine, boat and land transportation in hollow log canoes and covered wagons, nests and treehouses for young and old alike, protection from predators, even modern luxury vacation rentals, and more.

Science has recently shown trees to be a deeply connected network and wildly intertwined beneath the land, communicating with each other, sharing their resources and alerting each other to danger, and more. National Geographic, TED talk, BBC, and Smithsonian Mag have all shared fascinating research and information about how trees share information with each other.

We both have a long and deeply rooted (yup, pun intended) connection with trees and include the element of wood in our daily lives. One of our favorite things in our sacred space is a thrifted wooden bowl filled with petrified wood we’ve found (on private land with permission from the landowner). And yes, we sure do hug trees. 🙂

Another way we include wood in our lives is the background of our Earthly Abundance logo. Our logo is sea glass we found and the background is an aged piece of mahogany wood that I found by a dumpster in southern Arizona. I was able to clean it up and we upcycled this beautiful hard wood into a table for our plant babies and crystals, statues, and various ceremonial practices and projects.

Over the course of our adventures around the Pacific Northwest and American Southwest, we have consciously gathered a few pieces of driftwood and petrified wood that had a special something about them, an energy that called out to us, something new to work with, and an opportunity to offer something back to the earth in return as gratitude for these treasures.

Some of these pieces of wood have already found their new home! It’s so exciting to see a few pieces of driftwood I gathered while doing a beach clean up be transformed into a fun, mermaid-themed piece of interchangeable hanging art a sweet, little sea-loving soul will likely treasure for years to come. Her parents were certainly thrilled with what I created for them. Another soul had me create something for her to put in a sunny window – A driftwood branch holding 3 different length suncatchers that sent rainbows of light all over her work table (You’ll find suncatchers in our shop in the Home Decor section).

Another beautiful soul contacted me about custom-designing and making a piece of jewelry for a very special occasion – a piece for a commitment offering to her beloved partner. One of the pieces of petrified wood I gathered at almost 7000′ elevation, and it felt exactly right for this project – an ancient treasure as old as love itself, found as high up as mountains, weathering all kinds of storms, and becoming a stronger version of itself over time… And we’re talking MILLIONS of years!

I sent her a photo of the wood with my idea for a necklace wrapped in vintage bronze wire on a copper colored chain, and she was excited with the wood piece and to see what I came up with. The design came to me one night in a dream and I got to work, and texted her a photo of the finished piece. She was THRILLED and when it arrived a few days later, she was blown away and noted it was so much more beautiful and meaningful than the photos could capture. Her partner was also thrilled and it brought him some energy from an area he feels connected to explore but hasn’t yet been to – the sw desert!

We have a few more pieces ready to be turned into various heart-centered artistic endeavors. I have also taught myself how to make gorgeous wire-wrapped tree pendants, with intention going into every twist of the bare copper wire. Do you feel connected to the trees or have a longing to bring more wood energy into your life and personal spaces? You’re invited to browse our shop for something ready to go or get in touch with us to have something custom made for you or a loved one.
