Anemone Macro Texture 01
“Anemone Macro Texture 01”
It was Autumn of 2010, I was walking along the beach at Brackett’s Landing, north of the jetty, in Edmonds, Washington, U.S.A., and had my camera around my neck. We had just moved to the area and I was learning the land, exploring and meandering about the salt water shoreline I discovered only after we were moving – as in we had no idea there was this earthly abundant beauty less than 15 minutes from our new house.
I had a bag on my arm for the garbage I was picking up as I went and was enjoying the gentle waves, the aroma of seaweed, and in awe seeing snow-capped mountains across the water on the Olympic Peninsula.
A local woman asked me what I was photographing and we struck up a conversation. She told me about the neat things to see when it’s a super low (negative) tide. She mentioned starfish and occasionally a sunstar, said I should pick up a pair of good rainboots, a flashlight, and keep an eye on the tidetables. I showed up early one day when the tide was going out, and scheduled to be at -2.5 feet or so.
The water recedes and as it does, a rainbow of incredible creatures are revealed. I was taking photos of just about every anemone and starfish I saw, and as I got to a small nook in a corner under the ferry dock, my jaw dropped, and in this moment, a whole under world other world was revealed.
